Backyard Putting Greens in Lancaster, PA and Surrounding Areas
Today, with the introduction of special panel base putting green technology from UltraBaseSystems®, backyard putting greens can be installed with interlocking panels that are installed on top of a base, similar to those found under paver patios. This base allows for a firm foundation that won’t settle, while allowing rainfall to permeate into the soil below.
Plus, perhaps the greatest benefit of this system is the fact that you never lose your investment. With this system, if you were to move, you simply take the system with you and have it re-installed. It doesn’t have to be a permanent fixture of your backyard.
Ideas for Backyard Putting Greens
In terms of how advanced your backyard putting green can be, your imagination is the only limit—well, besides your budget of course. UltraBaseSystems® has been utilized for professional greens so they’ve certainly done some highly advanced projects and can bring some of those ideas to your backyard. It all comes down to what you want and how much of your yard you want to use for the green (or greens if you want more than one).
If you wanted, you could have your entire backyard become a putting green—almost like your own miniature golf course. Or, you could stick to just one section of the property as a backyard putting green at your Lancaster, PA home. It’s a fully customized approach based on what works best for you.
System founder Dave Barlow says that his personal putting green has a stream meandering around it. You could also incorporate boulders, sand traps, seating areas with benches, and even lighted cups to play at night. You can be as simplistic—or as complex—as you wish adding any number of bells and whistles to customize your course for your wants and needs.
Backyard Putting Green Maintenance
Maintenance is also minimal so it’s not like you’re going to need a degree in golf course management to keep your course in shape. Dave says that his putting green is installed in a “worst case scenario backyard,” meaning that he has lots of trees that drop leaves and debris onto his green. Despite that, Dave says the course has been easy to maintain. It’s a matter of periodically blowing off debris. He also lightly pressure washes it to help it look brand new at the end of each month. And once a year he’ll use a water and vinegar spray to take care of any calcium deposits that were left from rainwater.
Dave says that his backyard, which has huge Oak tree roots, never could have had a backyard putting green installed the “old way.” It would have been nearly impossible to excavate around the roots. But with his system, the green is built overtop the roots and though it’s actually the highest part of his yard, Dave says it still has a “built-in” look. It also doesn’t retain any water. When it rains, water goes through the turf and into panels in the ground. Dave says that his putting green is always the “driest spot” in the yard since it’s the first area to drain.
