Landscape design companies, like many other businesses, each have their own unique position in a local marketplace. Since 2000, our goal has been to shape Earth, Turf, & Wood as a premier landscape design and construction firm, specializing in mostly large, complex design/build projects. Our loyal clients and this unique position have helped us see steady growth over the past two decades.
But we realized there was something missing. Due to this growth, our positioning, and a limited staff, we occasionally have had to turn away medium-sized projects. We struggled with that reality and have been looking for a way to expand our capabilities to help more homeowners in the Lancaster, Reading, York, Harrisburg, Lebanon, and Hershey, PA areas, particularly those who have wanted the same exquisite quality, but with a more modest budget.
Adding a key member to our team was a crucial step to make this happen and we’re happy to announce that Paul Squierdo has joined our landscape design team.
Paul brings a unique expertise focused mostly on mid-sized projects with also the capability to handle those on a larger scale like those for our past clients.
We’re thrilled that we can now help even more local homeowners get the outdoor living spaces they’ve been dreaming of, from mid-sized patios and plantings to some of the most extreme backyard makeovers around.
A Lancaster County Native with a Range of Landscape Design & Architecture Experience
Immediately following his time at Lancaster Catholic High School, Paul worked as a laborer for design/build company, where he developed a foundation for his passion for the work.
He then went on to attend Penn State University and graduate in 2008 with a 5-year degree in Landscape Architecture. Upon graduating, Paul pursued work with a local landscape architecture and civil engineering firm in which he gained a multi-disciplinary background in design with a broad exposure to various types of land development projects.
But it was only a matter of time until he realized that his true strengths of design were best complemented by his love of project management and installation.
“I think even at a very young age, I never viewed outdoor yard work as a chore like most kids did,” Paul remembers. “I loved the outdoors as a child and enjoyed helping my parents with the yard.”
Most recently in his professional career, Paul spent the last 9 years with one of the largest lawn and landscape firms in Lancaster, PA designing and overseeing construction of hundreds of local projects.
The fact that Paul brings so much well-rounded experience, including both operations and design, was appealing to us. We feel it will allow us to be more responsive to our clients. Paul can step up and assume any key role at Earth, Turf, & Wood, allowing us to keep communication, quality, and progress on track.
Helping Dreams Take Shape
Paul says that having experience and training in each area of a landscape project allows him a unique appreciation for “seeing it take shape.”
“I love working with clients and getting to see it from both sides—making it look great on paper but then also seeing a project come to life through the construction and installation process,” Paul says. “I have a passion for both. I can also look at the landscape design and provide cost and estimating information, which I’ve found is helpful to the client. After all, whether a project is large or small, everyone has a budget they’re working with.”
Paul says that this “balanced understanding” has enabled him to be able to be a helpful guide for homeowners as they make their way through the design process.
“They know that they can call on me anytime from the start of the design to the end of the project installation and I can be a helpful source during each step,” Paul says. “I love partnering with homeowners to take their great ideas for their property and transform them into the reality of a dream space that their family and friends can enjoy for the many years to come.”
We were excited to add Paul’s expertise, diverse skill set, and his passion to our team. Paul says that he was attracted to Earth, Turf, & Wood because of its recognizable growth and the next challenge it presented in growing in his career path.
“The desire to take on new challenges has always been a driving force inspiring personal growth," says Paul. "Seeing that same drive in Earth, Turf, & Wood along with the opportunity for supporting the company's goal to help even more clients is what made the company appealing to join the team."
